How Dabs are Taken
There are many ways to enjoy cannabis concentrates, including dabbing. However, not everyone may be familiar with how dabs are made or how dabs are taken. Dabs are becoming more popular as cannabis consumers look for ways to experience stronger effects for various reasons.
Dabs—also known as shatter, wax, budder, live resin, and more —are cannabis concentrates that contain high THC cannabinoid levels. One can make these concentrates through chemical processes are all natural processes like simply using heat and pressure. In the dab-making process, solvents like butane or propane help extract oils from your cannabis.
This write-up covers what dabbing is, how to dab, and what it takes to get the best dab.
What is Dabbing?
Dabbing is the process of inhaling the vapor that an e-nail, wax pen, or any other dab tool produces by heating a cannabis concentrate. A “dab” is a dose of cannabis concentrate.
The dabbing process offers the best experience when done at low temperatures. Unlike the unsafe hand held torches (which you shouldn't be using, unless you like looking like a crackhead), e-nail for dabs have a PID controller through which you can set the temperature to dab at.

A typical dabbing rig resembles a bong— a crafted piece of glass with a water chamber, except in place of a flower bowl, dab rigs have dab nails.
Dabs tend to be sticky. They can be messy to handle if you don't have a dab tool. Their colors range from amber, yellow, white, and even brown.
Preparing Your Workspace and Tools
First, before you begin making dabs, it’s essential to make sure that you have all the tools needed for this process.
You should have a clean and clear workspace with enough time to complete the steps involved in making dabs. Also, ensure that your workspace is safe and away from nearby children or pets.
If any children are around, it might also be good to disable any devices with screens like the PID controller that could distract them from their playtime.

Preparing the Dab Rig
It’s essential to make sure you have a domeless dab nail on the top. Our nails are made from material that can withstand high temperatures. Some of the options in store include quartz, ceramic, and titanium electric nails.
While picking a nail, you must ensure that the size of your stem fits comfortably in your hand when using it. However, several nails in the market today are universal.
Consuming the Concentrate and Applying the Dab to the E-Nail
Now that you have your concentrate, it's time to use it. Grab your dab tool and get ready to consume the concentrate from your nail. If you've never done this before, don't worry—it's not as hard as you might think.
You want to hold your rig so that the glass is at a 45-degree angle. Then, slowly place the dab on the tool and onto the hot nail until all of the oil has evaporated from the nail. You want to place the carb cap over the naill and trap the heat as you inhale from the the dab rig, filling it with smoke.
Then, you can remove the cap and inhale once again to clear the collected vapor from the dab rig. You don't want any leftover oil sitting around your dab nail after you are done so it's good practice to keep q tips close by your enail station.
Carb Caps enhance your dabbing experience
The crucial step involves placing a carb cap over your dabbing nail. At this point, your wax should be vaporizing, and inhalation can occur safely.
Inhaling and Exhaling
- Take a hit by inhaling, holding in the smoke for 3-6 seconds, and exhaling.
- If you're not sure how much to inhale, start small: take only one or two hits. If that doesn't manifest the feeling you desire, try taking another hit. While dabbing, stay calm, and breathe slowly and deeply while counting to six (or even ten if you're ripping a fatty).
- Open up your mouth slightly so that all of the smoke clears out of it (it's okay if some remains inside).
Then, breathe slowly through your nose until everything feels normal again. If it is your first time to dab, ensure someone is around who can watch over you for safety reasons. Given that cannabis is not addictive, you may take as many dabs as you'd like, whenever you'd like without worrying about a chemical addiction. However, having a e-nail that has you dab rady at the flip of a switch could make it just a tad psychologically addictive because it's soooo easy!
To take dabs safely:
- Use only ceramic, medical grade titanium, or quartz dab tools, which can withstand high temperatures without cracking.
- Make sure all of the cords around your enail are in places where people or pets won't knock them over.
